Soft Acrobatics

Workshop Description
This workshop will aim to help individuals learn the awareness, mechanics & preparation to start developing acrobatic skills. There will be joint preparation instruction that will include strength & mobility exercises to best prepare joints for acrobatic activities. We will be addressing mechanics and prerequisites for acrobatic skills such as walk-over variations, back-handsprings, aerials & more. This workshop will aim not only to teach you the skill but how to learn the skill in the safest possible way.
This workshop is open to all levels and will provide basic framework for anyone to get started learning acrobatics even with zero experience.

Mili Gobbi is an Argentine verticalist and contortionist. Mili trained in Buenos Aires, New York, Porto, and Paris, and currently resides in France as a professional circus artist. However, Mili will be visiting New York for a few days to conduct her third workshop in the city. “Come join me and absorb the knowledge I've been fortunate to gather from around the world.”
As always, the focus will be on working the body comprehensively, emphasizing elasticity and strength to ensure safe practice. Classes are typically dynamic, allowing Mili to share as many exercises as possible for you to continue practicing independently. Mili always strives to explain not just how, but also why we do each exercise. The aim is to help you find pleasure in a safe and effective approach to body work.

Effortless Handstands
November 26, 3-5pm
In this workshop, Hisashi will teach a method for anyone to easily achieve a handstand without relying on muscle strength. A handstand requires little to no strength if the structure is correct. Learn how to grasp the physical sensations and learn the subtle control of the body while experiencing the delightful feeling of an effortless and floating handstand.
All levels welcome!

About Hisashi
Hisashi has been self-taught in juggling, handstand and contortion since the age of 20. With the mixed style, he has been working beyond the frame of dance and circus. Highly acclaimed for his skills and style that incorporates his unique philosophy, he has performed and taught in more than 20 countries around the world.
In addition to his solo work "Inverted Tree," he has collaborated with the French company Cie Defracto on "Youkai Kemame," which has been performed throughout Europe; In 2023 he performed in "Stage Evangelion Beyond“ choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
He also teaches stretching and handstand, and holds Japan's first handstand festival, "Hallucigenia Handstand Festival" in November 2023 in Kyoto.

This course is designed for all levels of experience. However, it is important to note that it is a physically demanding and hands-on course. You will not only learn the theory but also practice and integrate the education into your own body. So, be prepared to work hard both physically and mentally.
Classes will run from 10 am to 6pm each day, with a lunch break.

Handstand Shapes + Flexibility

In this workshop we get the special opportunity to learn from world class handbalancer and circus performer Mihaela Karkia.
This session will explore the technique, alignment and flexibility of the fundamental shapes of handbalancing (tuck, straddle, straight) as well as some not so fundamental ones (figa & flags)
We will spend time in this workshop training the essential flexibility to make your handstands both efficient and visually pleasing. Once bodies are warm and primed, we will apply this flexibility and technique to the handbalancing practice.
You can expect exploration of technique, drills and individualized feedback from this workshop.

Are you ready to learn how to do one-arm handstands, but don’t know where to start? In this workshop we will refine your form on two arms and introduce you to one arm training.
We will start with relevant shoulder mobility and alignment, then move on to two arm warm-up. Then continue with more advanced two arm shapes, before we continue with one arm specific drills. Come 30-40 minutes early so you can do your own lower body warm-up before we start.

Tuco is a dynamic acro porter, and international acro teacher. From Guatemala, learned its acro ways from different schools in europe and now teaching in the US.
Jessica DeLeo, owner and operator of The Movement Sanctuary, has been training standing acrobatics for nearly a decade and has been teaching since 2016. She has a passion for the mental health benefits of partner acrobatics and is currently pursuing her masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with the hopes of merging the two worlds for couples and families in a clinical setting.

About Axl
Axl has dedicated his life to the study and teaching of acrobatics. With over 12 years of elite gymnastics and acrobatics, and more than 10 years of coaching experience, his understanding of movement and mechanics has led him to many accolades such as the silver medal at the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in 2016. Since retiring from competition, Axl has performed on TV shows such as, Americas got Talent and Le Plus Grand Cabaret du Monde, and has performed on stages all over the world. Currently he works with the Adelaide based circus company Gravity and Other Myths.

About Garrett
Garrett was born and raised in Flagstaff, AZ. After recovering from an autoimmune illness at 13, he fell in love with all things exercise related. Garrett has been training for almost a decade in just about every discipline you can imagine. Everything from weightlifting, to yoga, to circus arts. He began his journey into circus through handbalance in 2017, added in aerial straps in 2020, and has worked with world-class coaches in both disciplines.
Exercise Science and its application to circus is one of his main focuses. He as spent the last seven years learning as much as possible about this from experts in their field, and combining it with practical coaching knowledge from coaches in NYC, Montreal, and Las Vegas.
